Senior Application Operations Engineer

Job summary

The Welsh Admin Portal(WAP)allowsusers in the Local Health Board's Medical Records teams will seamlessly interact with the localPatient AdministrationService (PAS)resulting in the referral being created in the PAS electronically. Subsequently in conjunction with the Welsh Clinical Portal (WCP) and Welsh Care Records Service (WCRS) the WAP application generates the necessary information needed for aConsultantto prioritise the referral. WCP provides electronic updates back to WAP and WCCG and stores the updated referrals in WCRS. WAP is used to manage the progression of the referral in PAS through to being ready for booking.

Someone who has had either grass roots experience oftheWelsh Admin Portalor has helped developor supportequivalent systems in the past you willbe required to take a flexible and innovative approach combined with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills to ensure thattheapplication performs to the requirements of its users.You will take responsibility for leadingalloperationalaspects ofthe Welsh Admin Portal.

This is an excellent opportunity for those withextensiveoperational IT experience who wish to work at a national level. Understanding a broad range of infrastructure and software technologies is essential to this post as is an excellent understanding of Problem, Change and Release management.You will be required to:

  • Management, operation support and development ofthe Welsh Admin Portal

  • Line management responsibilities for a team ofapplication operations engineers

  • Configuration and performance of the solution

  • Becoming the subject expert to provide guidance and technical advice to colleagues andNHSstaff

  • Managing changerequirements

Other areas of therole will be to work with our customer organisations, Welsh Government and other health services to help lead us in the future direction ofreferralsystems in Wales as well make sure the current system always remains operational.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential
  • Master's degree in a relevant professional field (e.g. IT, Computer Science), or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Knowledge gained through practical experience relevant to application operations, IT service management, or digital service delivery.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
Desirable
  • FEDIP Senior Practitioner, or equivalent recognised Advanced Professional qualification.
  • Professional registration, such as Registered IT Technician (RITTech).
  • Theoretical and specialist knowledge, such as gained with the following: o Relevant ITIL certifications
  • Knowledge of the NHS, other healthcare systems, or the health sector, including regional or national variations.

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience in application operations or IT service management within a complex organisational environment
  • Proven ability to manage and support complex IT applications, including coordinating change, incident, and release activities
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams to prioritise tasks, resolve complex issues, and deliver measurable service improvements.
  • Experience of analysing operational and performance data to generate insights that inform service delivery and support continuous improvement.
  • Familiar with applying relevant IT standards to ensure systems meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiar with using incident management tools and principles to track, escalate, and resolve issues quickly.
  • Proficient in managing services to meet quality, security, and performance standards.
