Senior Information Governance Officer
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Directorate's Information Governance Team for an experienced Information Governance professional to join us as Primary Care Support & Information Governance Assurance Lead on a secondment basis to provide maternity cover until31 May 2027.
This is a key role supporting the delivery of Information Governance and Primary Care programmes across NHS Wales. Working closely with the Primary Care Support and Information Governance Assurance Manager and Head of Information Governance, you will help ensure the successful implementation,monitoringand assurance of a range of Information Governance work programmes. You will also contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the Welsh Information Governance Toolkit.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Information Governance principles, including Data Protection, Confidentiality and Information Assurance, together with experience of leading or supporting Information Governance-related projects and work programmes.
This post is a secondment for 8 months until 31st May 2027 to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Essential Requirements
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in an Information Governance role.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering Information Governance work programmes and initiatives.
- Sound knowledge of Information Governance legislation,standardsand best practice, including UK GDPR and Data Protection requirements.
- Excellent communication, stakeholderengagementand organisational skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Data Protection or a related Information Governance discipline.
- Experience of working within the NHS or a healthcare environment.
Location and Flexible Working
This role can be based at either our Cardiff or Mold office.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to work, together with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. They will play a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of a robust Information Governance framework, providing expert advice, guidance and support to programmes and stakeholders on all aspects of Information Governance, Data Protection and Confidentiality.
On a day-to-day basis, the postholder willbe responsible fordelivering Information Governance activities across Primary Care services and supporting the ongoing development and assurance of the Welsh Information Governance Toolkit. The role will involve providing specialist Information Governanceexpertise,identifyingbest practice, supporting compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and making recommendations to support continuous improvement.
Applicants mustpossessstrong Information Governance knowledge and experience. Experience of working within a health and/or social care environment would beadvantageous, although it is not essential for this role.
Given the geographical spread of the service, the postholder will berequiredto adopt a flexible approach to working and be willing to travel occasionally to sites across Wales. This may involve overnight stays whererequired.

Qualifications
- Relevant Degree or equivalent experience.
- Specialist knowledge of Information law e.g., UK General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information Act.
- Evidence of further relevant higher degree /post graduate qualification.
- Registered with a relevant informatics professional body.
Experience
- Significant Experience of working in the field of Information Governance.
- Proven, relevant experience of working with and the challenges involved in working with health information.
- Experience of producing high quality information for an internal and external audience.
- Experience of working on projects that support better IG practice and highlight successes
- Experience of working with staff of varying seniority across organisational and professional boundaries in a complex organisation.
- Experience of developing and updating information resources. Knowledge and experience of using language and terminology.
- Experience in conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments for large scale projects
- Experience in the creation of and delivery of training programmes to a wide variety of stakeholder groups with varying training requirements and tailored to different levels of understanding.
- Experience in the use of information law, and in particular the UK General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018, and the Common law duty of confidentiality.
- Experience in dealing with requests for information by members of the public as prescribed by law (e.g., the Freedom of Information Act, the Data Protection legislation, Environmental Information Regulations etc)
