Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for aTest Engineer (Level 3) to support the Digital Services for Patients and the Public (DSPP) programme to develop and support the next generation of health and care digital services in Wales, including the NHS Wales App.
The NHS Wales app will be a user-facing solution that will connect patients and the public to Welsh health and care services and be accessible to anyone living in Wales to proactively manage their health and access to trusted information on health, care and wellbeing services.
We're looking for:
Essential:
- Hands-on experience in mobile test automation (Android and/or iOS).
- Proven experience with Appium or similar mobile automation frameworks.
- Experience writing automated test scripts.
- Working experience with CI/CD tools.
- Exposure to agile software development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
- Experience executing tests on real devices and emulators/simulators.
Desirable:
- Experience with BDD frameworks.
- Experience testing native, hybrid, and cross-platform mobile applications.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based testing platforms.
- Prior experience integrating test automation into a DevOps pipeline.
- Experience with performance testing of mobile apps.
Main duties of the job
You will take ownership of the implementation of test process, activities and approaches defined to ensure successful delivery, coordination within the agile product team and quality reporting. This includes:
- Responsible for planning the implementation, and reporting of elements in the QA strategy and test approaches
- Collaborate with product leads to implement and report on the quality process and status at a work package level
- Lead and plan the implementation of quality process improvements, testing and assurance activities in the delivery plan
- Responsible for managing the delivery of test cases, data, scripts and criteria.
- Develop and maintain relationships with national applications customers, including senior NHS clinicians, managers, and users, providing them with advice, support, and training.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- ISTQB or equivalent software testing certification.
- Strong understanding of software testing principles and QA methodologies.
Desirable:
- Certification or formal training in mobile application testing or automation frameworks.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Solid knowledge of mobile platforms (Android and/or iOS), including UI/UX guidelines.
- Proficiency in test automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with version control systems,.
- Knowledge of test case management and bug tracking tools.
Desirable:
- Understanding of mobile app architecture and lifecycle.
- Knowledge of performance monitoring and log analysis tools for mobile apps.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing for mobile applications.
- Awareness of security considerations in mobile app testing.

Qualifications
- Educated to post-graduate level (or equivalent qualification / experience in an associated professional field)
- Practical experience, working at this level, across the range of work procedures and practices.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- FEDIP Practitioner, or equivalent recognised Intermediate Professional qualification.
- Theoretical and specialist knowledge gained with the following certifications (or equivalent): oISTQB-BCS Certified Tester Foundation Level oISTQB Certified Tester Foundation level - Mobile Application Testing.
Knowledge and Experience
- Aware of principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management of the testing process and the execution of tests throughout the lifecycle of development or integration projects.
- Aware of applying standards, practices, codes, and assessment and certification programmes relevant to the digital industry, and the specific organisation or business domain.
- Aware of concepts such as Servant-Leaders; ceremonies, Stand-Ups, Sprints and Retrospectives; and the deployment of tools and techniques such as Backlogs and A/B Testing.
- Aware of understanding and application of different development approaches e.g. iterative/ incremental methodologies (Agile, XP, TDD, SCRUM) or traditional sequential methodologies (Waterfall or V-Model), development and operational staff work collaboratively.
- Aware of a collection of methods, practises, tools and techniques, underpinned by the Agile Manifesto, that enable teams to deliver high value products and services in small, workable, increments.
