Your new role
A Lead-level, strategic, and fully UK remote Designer within the central Product Design team at Digital Science. This is a mission-driven company that creates software products to advance research across various scientific fields. You will be materially impacting how design is executed within the company, focusing on complex problems in the productivity space and supporting end-to-end researcher workflows, particularly those related to search, discovery, and academic reference management, heavily supported by AI technologies.
What you'll be doing
  • Own Product Discovery: Lead quantitative and qualitative methods to generate actionable, fast-time-to-insight.
  • Define Strategy: Bring clarity to ambiguous problems using conceptual design, experience mapping, and Information Architecture.
  • Facilitate Workshops: Lead cross-functional and remote workshops to drive alignment and direction.
  • Execute Iteratively: Rapidly prototype, co-create, and iteratively evaluate product experiences, ensuring simplicity and pragmatism.
  • Collaborate: Efficiently partner with Product, Engineering, and Marketing peers within cross-functional squads.
  • Final Delivery: Produce engineering-ready, systematic design using modern tools, adhering to accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2AA).
  • Measure Impact: Proactively measure and communicate the outcomes of design work using product analytics.
What you'll bring to the role
  • Relevant Experience: Demonstrated success in delivering strategic UX work on complex SaaS web applications (productivity, AI, or scientific domains preferred).
  • AI Interest: Curiosity and a keen interest in AI and agentic experiences, with a focus on responsible application.
  • Independence: Ability to independently own and drive the entire human-centered design process, from discovery through impact evaluation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in modern design tools (e.g., Figma) for rapid, interactive prototyping.
  • Design Communication: Clear visual communication and storytelling skills to articulate design rationale to all stakeholders.
  • Strategic Mindset: The ability to strategically balance scope, speed, and quality for optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A humble, collaborative, and consultative "maker" mindset—leaving ego at the door.
Don't worry if you don't meet every qualification—let us be the judge! Studies show that many qualified candidates from under-represented groups hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive team and strongly encourage you to submit your application.
