IR35 Status - Outside IR35
The Location - Solihull
The Working Pattern - Hybrid, on site every two weeks
Duration - Contract, start ASAP

Digital Skills are working with a global technology business supplying directly into Central Government. The organisation delivers secure, large-scale platforms that underpin critical government services, operating across both cloud and on premise environments.

About the Role

This role suits an experienced Lead Platform Engineer who remains hands on while providing technical leadership. You will be responsible for the stability, security and operation of AWS and on-prem platforms, while mentoring a small team of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Operate and support secure AWS and on-prem infrastructure within enterprise environments
• Provide L3 support across incidents, problems and change activities
• Lead platform patching, upgrades and release activities across cloud and on-prem systems
• Support CI/CD tooling and environment readiness across delivery stages
• Maintain platform documentation, including low-level designs and operational artefacts
• Contribute to security remediation, vulnerability management and compliance activities
• Mentor and technically guide a small team of 2-3 platform engineers
• Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing

Desired Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS platform services
• Solid Linux systems engineering background
• Proven experience supporting on-prem infrastructure, including virtualisation, networking or Firewalls
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and supporting delivery environments
• Background operating secure, highly regulated platforms
• Ability to lead by example and mentor engineers without direct line management

Summary of the Best Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a senior or lead level Platform Engineer with strong AWS, Linux and on-prem infrastructure experience. You will be experienced operating in secure government environments, remaining hands-on while providing technical leadership and mentoring to a small engineering team.

You will also have active SC Clearance and be able to attend visits to a site in Solihul every other week, sometimes more frequently.
