Role Overview
A permanent opportunity has opened for an experienced Principal AWS Platform Engineer to join a UK-based technology organisation delivering secure, large-scale cloud platforms within highly regulated environments.
This role suits a senior engineer who enjoys shaping cloud strategy, setting engineering standards, and remaining hands-on with complex AWS infrastructure. You'll play a key part in designing platforms that are secure by default, highly automated, and built to scale, while influencing how cloud services are delivered across the organisation.
What You'll Be Responsible For
In this role, you'll take ownership of AWS platform design and continuous improvement, working across multi-account environments and enterprise-scale architectures. You'll be involved in:
- Defining and evolving AWS platform architecture using AWS Organizations and modern Landing Zone patterns
- Implementing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS CDK
- Embedding security, compliance, and monitoring into cloud platforms through native AWS services
- Enabling automated delivery through well-designed CI/CD pipelines and self-service capabilities
- Designing and supporting secure networking, IAM, KMS, and container-based workloads (EKS/ECS)
- Providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and promoting best practices across teams
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this position, you'll bring a strong background in AWS platform engineering, including:
- Extensive experience building and operating AWS environments at scale
- Proven expertise with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and multi-account strategies
- Deep understanding of AWS security, networking, encryption, and identity services
- Strong Infrastructure as Code and automation experience
- Programming skills in Python, Go, or similar languages
- Experience with Kubernetes/EKS and observability tooling (eg logging and metrics platforms)
- A track record of leading, coaching, or supporting junior engineers
