Senior Test Engineer – Digital Consultancy

Location: Leeds (Hybrid / UK-wide with travel)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £57,000 – £64,000 per annum

Overview

Our client, a leading digital consultancy, is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality, user-centred digital solutions. This role is suited to an experienced testing professional operating at senior level who combines deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement and a passion for quality, automation, and continuous improvement.

The position offers clear progression opportunities, with the advertised salary positioned at the lower end of the senior band to support growth within the role.

Responsibilities

  • Define testing strategies and parameters in collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Execute functional and non-functional testing, producing clear test reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of user-centred digital solutions within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Design, maintain, and improve test automation frameworks for web and native applications.
  • Support and improve software development and deployment pipelines, identifying risks and bottlenecks early.
  • Communicate testing approaches, progress, and outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure delivery challenges are resolved effectively.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and line management of other test engineers.
  • Promote testing and quality engineering best practice internally and externally through blogs, workshops, and speaking opportunities.

Requirements

Essential

  • Extensive experience across the full testing lifecycle in a QA or Test Engineer role.
  • Strong experience in functional and non-functional test automation.
  • Proven experience testing web and mobile applications, including accessibility, usability, and cross-browser/device testing.
  • Hands-on experience with testing tools and frameworks such as Selenium, SpecFlow, Cucumber, Gherkin, JMeter, and K6.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures.
  • Strong understanding of agile delivery methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and TDD.
  • Experience designing scalable testing frameworks across varied platforms and environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Desirable

  • Exposure to Python for test automation or scripting.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM).
  • Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling including Jenkins, Azure DevOps, AWS CodeBuild, or similar.
  • Previous experience delivering projects within public sector environments.
