Senior Data Engineer
Job summary
The Trust has recently made significant investment in new Data Warehouse systems, complimented by new Business Intelligence reporting tools.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our busy and highly skilled team to further develop and maintain the data warehouse and reporting cubes.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to interpret complex requests then design implement new technical solutions, utilising the SQL stack and other technologies where appropriate.
A logical thinker who can work using your own initiative, you will also be a confident communicator and team player. The role will involve managing and close working with other developers in the team, and well as analysts and other members of the department and staff across the Trust.
Educated to degree level, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline with experience in a software or information development role. The role requires experience of ETL and BI development using full SQL stack (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS), NHS background, and preferably some experience of PowerBI and Microsoft Excel.
We operate hybrid working and are based at the Civic Centre in Doncaster. Travel to other sites may be required occasionally.

Qualifications &Training
- Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline plus post graduate diploma or equivalent experience in a software or information development role
- Expert knowledge and skills in Microsoft SQL Server Database environments including administration and utilisation of associated products gained through attending a variety of formal courses and significant practical experience in data warehouse development
- Academic knowledge of the theory of relational and analytical database concepts and design.
- Completion of training course(s) in SQL development e.g. Transact SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS.
- Project Management certification
Knowledge & Experience
- Awareness of NHS clinical information systems
- Extensive SQL database development / programming experience using Transact SQL.
- Highly experienced in creating BI reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Experience of setting up automated data transfer packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Excellent knowledge and experience of SQL Server Database Administration.
- Excellent knowledge and experience of Windows Server operating systems as required for performing Systems Administration tasks
- Experienced in delivering training to groups in a classroom setting, and creation of comprehensive training materials
- Experience of Visual Studio / VB.NET / ASP.NET / HTML (or similar) to develop web based applications linking to SQL databases.
- Good understanding of PbR and 18 weeks
- Experience of creating data cubes using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
- Knowledge of Azure
- Experience of VBA, VB Script, DOS Batch files and other similar programming or scripting languages
- Basic knowledge of IT networking e.g. LAN, WAN, firewalls, IP, subnets, routers, DHCP etc.
