Director of Computing

Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Director of Computing to lead and deliver high-quality teaching across GCSE and A Level programmes within our University Technical College (UTC). This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Computer Science education in a unique environment that combines academic excellence with industry engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Computing lessons across KS4 and KS5.
  • Create schemes of work and develop resources that support student learning.
  • Assess student work and provide constructive feedback to aid progression.
  • Track and report on student attendance, progress, and achievement.
  • Support learners pastorally, fostering confidence and resilience.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Lead and inspire colleagues within the Computing department.
  • Stay up to date with current teaching practices and subject developments.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with industry partners through our digital futures programme.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised teaching qualification or a relevant Level 3 qualification with willingness to gain a teaching qualification.
  • Recent experience teaching Computing at GCSE and/or A Level.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Computer Science and the ability to inspire and motivate learners.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and assessment skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting students with additional learning needs.
  • Experience in curriculum leadership or departmental management.
  • Familiarity with STEM-focused education and employer engagement.
