Trainee Dispenser/Dispensing Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for a reliable and friendly Trainee Dispensing Assistant/Dispenser to join our thriving semi-rural GP practice.

Based across our two dispensary sites, you will be part of a welcoming and supportive team committed to providing excellent care and service to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the processing of weekly and monthly repeat prescriptions, reconcile discharge medications, and undertake a full range of dispensing duties, including stock control and inventory management.

An NVQ Level 2 qualification in Dispensing will be available to the sucessful candidate. Experience of using SystmOne would be advantageous. The role requires flexibility to work across both of our dispensary sites and a commitment to working collaboratively as part of our friendly and dedicated practice team.

Previous experience within General Practice would be beneficial; however, full training and support will be provided to the successful candidate. We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and patient-focused individual who is keen to contribute to delivering a high-quality dispensing service.

Burbage is a large village which is situated close to the M69 motorway, centrally located between the cities of Leicester and Coventry. We are a strong partnership team with a commitment to the provision of high-quality healthcare.

We are a training & teaching Practice with a list size of 13,000 patients. Our team consists of four partners, three salaried GPs, a full team of Nurses/HCA and experienced support staff. We mentor and train medical and nurse students and GP Registrars. Partners with specialist interest in ENT and Dermatology and active roles in PCN and LMC

We work in a state-of-the-art surgery following a recent 3.2 million pound refurbished and development. We are a semi-rural dispensing practice and work collaboratively with other local practices in our PCN/Federation

Job responsibilities

Job Summary :

To provide comprehensive dispensing service to the practice by undertaking the daily processing of repeat prescriptions for both dispensing and non-dispensing patients and to provide full dispensing support to the dispensaries at Burbage and Wolvey.

Job Responsibilities:

Dispensing
  • Dispensing of acute and repeat prescriptions requests received face to face, by telephone and on line, from Dispensing patients in line with Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures
  • Endorsing prescriptions correctly to ensure appropriate reimbursement from Prescription Pricing Authority
  • Updating Dispensing patients repeat screens on Doctors instructions
  • Undertaking annual Dispensing Review of Medicines (DRUMS) for dispensing patients and actioning any compliance issues identified
  • Dispensing private prescriptions.
  • Preparation of weekly monitored dosage systems for Dispensing patients
  • Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate
  • Taking prescription repeats over the telephone and at the patients hatch.
  • Collecting private charges for certain medications and holiday prophylactic medication
  • Liaising with Appliance Contractors and ordering supplies for patients as necessary
  • Sorting, stamping and endorsing prescriptions.
  • Completing backs of prescriptions as appropriate
  • Assist Dispensing staff in preparation of monthly PPA submission
  • Dispensing and handling of Control Drugs in line with Burbage/Wolvey Surgery Controlled Drug Policy
  • Checking colleagues dispensing (once Accuracy checking course has been completed)
  • Checking monthly wholesaler statements
  • Ensuring the Dispensary area remains safe, clean and tidy at all times and that cleaning schedules are maintained.
  • Covering colleagues for sickness and holidays
  • Assist with the training of practice staff as required

Prescriptions

  • Processing of daily repeat medication requests for dispensing and non-dispensing patients
  • Completion of Medication request sheets for queries
  • Liaising with pharmacies and care homes regards processing monthly requests and dealing with prescription queries
Stock Control
  • Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the telephone/ wholesalers computer link.
  • Checking goods as and when they are delivered.
  • Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers.
  • Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.
  • Removing out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.
  • Disposal of returned unused medicines.
  • Ensuring the storage area remains safe, clean and tidy at all times and that cleaning schedules are maintained.

Medicines Reconciliation

To assist with the reconciliation of patients discharge medication with the practice computer system.(In the absence of Medicines Support Officer)
