Lead Software Engineer
Lead Engineer/Head of Middle Office Engineering - Hedge Fund - London - Durlston Partners - Up to £400k TC
The opportunity
One of the more interesting funds in London right now is building out its middle office and wants
someone to run it. You would own the macro trade lifecycle end to end, and you would actually need to understand how it all works under the hood, not just manage the people who do.
It is a hands-on role. You would be close to the systems and in the detail day to day. But you would also be leading a team of around five to seven, so it suits someone senior enough to step back who still wants to stay technical. They will test you on both the domain and the tech, so you need to genuinely know your stuff.
What you would own
- The macro trade lifecycle end to end: booking, confirmation, valuation, and reconciliation.
- The technical health of the middle office stack, working hands-on across the systems that run it.
- Leading and growing a team of around five to seven, setting the bar on quality and ownership.
- Partnering closely with trading, technology, and operations to keep the lifecycle clean and scalable.
- Identifying where process and tooling can be improved, then driving those changes through.
What you will need
- A genuinely deep, technical understanding of the macro trade lifecycle.
- A track record of staying hands-on with the systems while leading a team.
- The technical depth to hold your own with engineers and traders alike.
- Experience leading or mentoring a team, ideally of a similar size.
- The judgment to know when to step back and when to get into the detail.
- Strong Python coding skills ideally with some exposure to C#.
What they offer
- Hybrid working (3 in, 2 remote)
- Very modern tech stack - little to no legacy tech with tonnes of greenfield projects on the horizon.
- Strong Compensation
- Highly collaborative and tech lead environment
