Senior RF Data Science Specialist
Leveraging blue skies data science in support of a more secure future
London, hybrid working; to £58k plus benefits
This three-year fixed term contract is with a prestigious research organisation who use emerging data science and AI techniques to stay ahead of evolving threats to national security. They employ some of the brightest minds in the country, and are seeking to add another high performing lateral thinker to their growing team specialising in securing against attacks in the electromagnet and radio frequency domains. This area could naturally encompass topics such as radars or resilient terrestrial or space-based communication systems.
This is a senior research role, and requires exceptional mathematical and analytical skills, self-motivation, and an ability to think beyond the state of the art to solve problems. You would be working in collaboration with industry partners or other research bodies. Your co-workers could include computer scientists, AI specialists, statisticians, physicists, and mathematicians, so you will need excellent team working and communication skills.
As a Senior Data Science Specialist, you would be instrumental in characterising problems and evaluating the plausibility of proposed solutions. Your projects would be exciting, mentally stimulating, and relatively short in duration, and would provide a key input for proofs-of-concept and follow-up work.
You will need:
- An outstanding academic background, with a 1st or 2.1 class degree in maths, physics, or similar discipline from a top university and a relevant PhD. An aptitude for authoring quality scientific publications is essential.
- Substantial prior experience in applying data science within research in academia or industry.
- Strong expertise in data science techniques, knowledge in areas such as AI, signal conditioning, signal processing, RF engineering and modelling, protective strategies for electronics, and algorithm development. Sensor fusion experience would be very beneficial.
- Good coding skills in Python or similar.
- An aptitude or interest in mentoring junior researchers.
Due to the sensitive nature of some of the work undertaken, the role requires security clearance, so sole British nationality is required.
You will be joining an exceptionally bright team of engineers and scientists, working in an open and adaptive culture that values honesty and accepts that blue sky ideas don't always succeed. They support continued learning and personal development as a fundamental part of how they operate. This is a great opportunity to work on exciting meaningful projects and take your data science expertise to the next level. The organisation's offices are easily accessible via public transport, and hybrid working is available.
