Chief Financial Officer

Our client is a privately owned Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) SME built on open data principles. Its mission is to make public data not just accessible—but insightfully presented, intuitive to explore, and easy to act on. The company specialises in transforming raw, often fragmented open datasets into structured, high-value tools and insights that empower decision-makers across both public and private enterprises.

Now entering a pivotal phase of scale-up, our client is looking for a strategic and entrepreneurial Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help steer the business through its next stage of growth.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO is a core member of the executive team, responsible for leading the financial strategy, driving operational excellence, and preparing the business for scale. The CFO plays a critical role in shaping the company’s commercial model, supporting product innovation, and unlocking long-term enterprise value.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Define and lead a financial strategy aligned with long-term business goals and impact-driven growth.
  • Scalable Infrastructure: Build financial systems and reporting tools that can scale with a high-volume, data-centric business.
  • Data-Driven Planning: Develop robust forecasting models, pricing strategies, and financial KPIs grounded in data insight and product usage patterns.
  • Capital Strategy: Support the company through funding rounds, partnership negotiations, and financial due diligence.
  • Growth Enablement: Provide financial leadership around new market entry, subscription model optimization, and product-led growth initiatives.
  • Governance & Risk: Ensure compliance, financial controls, and risk management processes are fit for purpose as the business scales.
  • Team Development: Lead and grow a high-performing finance function, cultivating operational rigour and a commercial mindset.

Candidate profile

  • Experience of having helped scale at least one high-growth company—ideally in the DaaS, SaaS, analytics, or digital content space.
  • Experience monetizing data-driven products, particularly where the value lies in user experience, visualization, or aggregation rather than proprietary data.
  • A track record of navigating scale-up challenges, building infrastructure, raising capital, and supporting international growth.
  • Be able to balance analytical depth with strategic vision—and are just as comfortable in the boardroom as in the details of a model or report.
  • Comfortable in a mission-led company and energized by the potential of open data to create positive change.
  • A professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.

The opportunity

  • A leadership seat in a business redefining how public data is accessed and used.
  • A chance to help shape the commercial future of a purpose-driven company with big growth ambitions.
  • Competitive base salary, performance incentives, and the potential for equity participation.
  • A collaborative culture that values design thinking, transparency, and long-term thinking.
