Technical Lead - IT Infrastructure & Support
We are seeking a Technical Lead to join our team supporting one of our largest enterprise clients. This is a hands-on technical role, ideal for a senior engineer with strong Oracle and containerisation experience, who enjoys coaching and guiding junior staff without formal line management responsibilities.
Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 + on-call allowance
Location: Derby, East Midlands
Clearance: SC Clearance is a bonus but can be obtained
The role offers the opportunity to work on critical IT infrastructure projects, alongside supporting and enhancing secure, high-availability environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical expertise across infrastructure, containerisation, and Oracle platform support
- Act as a technical point of escalation, resolving complex issues and ensuring stability of critical systems
- Support the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) platform - focusing on infrastructure and platform support, not database administration
- Deliver a mix of project and BAU support work, with time structured between both
- Guide and coach junior technical staff, helping allocate project and support tasks within the team
- Participate in the on-call/standby rota (every 3-4 weeks), ensuring 24/7 support for the ODA platform
- Contribute to ongoing service improvement initiatives, adopting modern practices and technologies
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Oracle technologies, ideally Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) or similar infrastructure platforms
- Practical experience with containerisation, specifically Docker
- Broad IT infrastructure background (Windows/Linux servers, networking, virtualisation, backup, monitoring, etc)
- Experience working in secure, high-availability environments
- Ability to provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to junior engineers
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Exposure to Kubernetes (planned future use)
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tooling
- Prior experience in enterprise or large-scale technical support environments
- Current security clearance (SC) - highly beneficial but not essential
Working Pattern
- Standard working hours (8-4 or 9-5)
- On-site presence required (five days per week). Flexibility possible for the right candidate (e.g., four days a week)
- On-call/standby rota every 3-4 weeks with additional payment
- Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (British nationality)
Why Join?
This role is a chance to work on complex and critical enterprise systems in a secure environment, developing expertise across Oracle platforms and modern containerisation technologies. The position offers a balance of technical depth, project delivery, and tech leadership, in a supportive and collaborative environment.
