IT System Engineer
IT Systems Engineer
Nottingham | Permanent | Up to £45,000
Are you a hands-on infrastructure engineer who still gets a buzz from working with real tin? Do you enjoy having genuine ownership of a hosted environment rather than being a small cog in a vast cloud factory? If so, this could be exactly the right move for you.
The Organisation
Our client is a well-established and respected technology company with its UK headquarters in Nottingham city centre. Founded over 40 years ago, the business forms part of a larger international group with a global footprint spanning Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and beyond, employing in excess of 1,000 people worldwide.
Operating at the forefront of their specialist sector, the UK subsidiary delivers complex, mission-critical technology solutions to some of the most prominent public and private sector organisations in the country, including contracts of national significance. Their work requires the highest standards of systems reliability, security, and performance.
The Role
Joining a close-knit IT infrastructure team, you will take day-to-day responsibility for a well-established on-premises hosting centre. Your core focus will be keeping that environment running at peak performance, managing VMware vSphere virtualisation, Cisco firewalling and networking, Dell server and storage hardware, and Microsoft Server environments, while also contributing to ongoing projects and improvements.
You will be the go-to person in the data centre when the senior engineer is unavailable, so confidence and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure are important. You will also provide a degree of general IT support to the Nottingham office, so a helpful, can-do attitude towards end users is just as important as your technical credentials.
This isn't a cloud-first role — it's one for someone who understands that on-premises infrastructure still powers some of the most demanding client environments in the country, and who takes genuine pride in that.
What We're Looking For

• Comfortable working in and around a data centre environment.
• A methodical approach to incident resolution and solid documentation habits.

The Person
• Around two to three years of infrastructure experience and looking for a role where you can genuinely grow and take ownership.
• Not fazed by being asked to turn your hand to something slightly outside your comfort zone.
• Knows when to ask for help, this team values honesty over bravado.
• Happy to be based on-site the majority of the time (flexible working available).
• Comfortable with occasional travel to Ireland and, rarely, Germany.
