Software Engineer AI

As an AI Software Engineer embedded in a dedicated Product Squad, you will be the technical owner of end-user facing AI products, focusing on Generative AI agents and intelligent workflows that deliver tangible business impact. Your main goal is to maximize product performance, iterate based on user feedback and creatively apply the capabilities of our internal GenAI Platform Team. You'll own the full lifecycle of an AI agent from prompt design through to production deployment and monitoring.

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation of one day per week at our Citigen office in London.

Here's a taste of what you'll be doing:

  • Design, build, and deploy autonomous AI agents and multi-step workflows using frameworks like LangGraph, LangChain or the internal GenAI SDKs

  • Refine agent behaviour through thoughtful prompt engineering, ensuring clarity, reliability and predictable outcomes

  • Develop APIs, tools and integrations that allow agents to connect with enterprise systems (CRM, ERP, databases) to solve real-world problems

  • Evaluate and test agent performance using internal frameworks, synthetic data and platform provided pipelines to ensure quality, reliability and alignment with user expectations

  • Diagnose and iterate on agent behaviour by examining logs, traces and memory states, improving their reasoning and task execution

  • Collaborate closely with the GenAI Platform Team to leverage platform capabilities like caching and optimised endpoints for better performance and efficiency

  • Partner with Product Managers and UX Designers to translate user needs and business KPIs into practical agent behaviours and technical solutions

  • Own deployment, monitoring and operational excellence ensuring AI products remain secure, stable and compliant with platform governance.

Are we the perfect match?

  • 5 years of experience in Software Engineering, experience with LangChain or LangGraph for building multi-step Agentic AI workflows is a plus though not essential

  • Strong Python skills and solid software engineering fundamentals

  • Hands-on experience with Django, FastAPI or Flask, ideally leading development of production ready systems

  • Familiarity with modern AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or equivalent). Experience connecting to RAG systems and vector databases is a plus

  • Comfortable working with model APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or internal endpoints) and managing configurations

  • Experience with production deployment: Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, microservices via REST/gRPC

  • Curiosity about end-user problems-you enjoy designing solutions that are intuitive, reliable and impactful

  • Ability to understand business goals and define success through measurable outcomes not just code quality

  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, especially for complex, non-deterministic systems

  • Collaborative and communicative able to work across a cross-functional squad and explain technical trade offs clearly

Bonus skills: AWS serverless experience, prior work on AI projects or experience integrating agents with real-world workflows
