Business Analyst – Underwriting Workbench
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst within our client’s Business Transformation team, to play a pivotal role in the delivery of our Underwriting Workbench programme. This is a permanent position at the heart of a strategic transformation initiative focused on modernising underwriting capabilities across our London Market business. The role reports into the Head of Business Analysis.
The successful candidate will combine deep London Market insurance expertise with strong business analysis and stakeholder leadership skills. You will act as a trusted partner to Underwriters, Operations, Technology and third-parties, ensuring that business needs are translated into effective, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business analysis activities across the full lifecycle of the Underwriting Workbench programme.
- Partner closely with Underwriters and operational stakeholders to understand current workflows, pain points, and strategic objectives.
- Elicit, analyse and document complex business requirements, ensuring traceability through design and delivery.
- Work closely with Testing team to ensure requirements are SMART
- Define and shape the target operating model aligned to future underwriting capabilities.
- Facilitate workshops with senior underwriting and operational stakeholders.
- Translate London Market processes (placement, binding, endorsements, renewals, delegated authority where applicable) into system and data requirements.
- Collaborate with Architecture and Technology teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise strategy.
- Support vendor selection, implementation and configuration where applicable.
- Drive process optimisation, automation opportunities and data quality improvements.
- Ensure regulatory and market requirements (e.g. Lloyd’s, market messaging standards, reporting obligations) are embedded in solution design.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior Business Analysts where required.
- Participation in Business analysis & Business Transformation team meetings
Required Experience
- Significant experience (ideally 5+ years) as a Business Analyst within the London Market insurance sector, ideally within a managing agent
- Strong understanding of underwriting processes across the policy lifecycle.
- Experience working on underwriting platforms, workbench implementations or core system transformation programmes would be a huge advantage
- Proven track record delivering large-scale change initiatives in a complex insurance environment.
- Experience engaging directly with senior Underwriters and business leadership.
- Strong knowledge of the London Market ecosystem (Lloyd’s, brokers, coverholders, delegated authority, bordereaux, PPL, messaging standards).
- Understanding of process modelling notation (eg BPMN or UML)
- Experience working within Agile and/or hybrid delivery frameworks.
- Experience working with tools such as Confluence, Jira, Lucidchart, Visio
