Information Analyst - Acute

Job summary

We're looking for an Information Analyst (Acute) to join our forward-thinking Data & Analytics team.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the accurate and timely submission of key national datasets, with a strong focus on ensuring data quality throughout the process. You'll work closely with clinical and operational teams to extract, validate, and analyse data that supports decision-making across the Trust.

You'll use SQL and Python to develop and maintain ETL pipelines, supporting the Trust's data warehouse and helping to automate routine processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on data work and wants to make a real impact on healthcare delivery.

The successful applicant would be working towards a Level 4 Data Analyst qualification.

Main duties of the job

As an Information Analyst within the Trust's Data & Analytics Department, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality data solutions that inform clinical and operational decision-making. Reporting to the Enterprise Data Manager, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely submission of key datasets (e.g., CDS) and for maintaining the integrity of the underlying data.

In this role, you will:

  • Extract, validate, and analyse complex datasets from acute and community systems.

  • Develop and maintain automated reporting processes and ETL pipelines using SQL and Python.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to improve data quality and ensure compliance with national reporting requirements.

  • Respond to ad hoc information requests from managers, clinicians, and external stakeholders.

  • Support the ongoing development of the Trust's data warehouse and related clinical information systems.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent higher education qualification or experience in the specialist role
Desirable
  • Evidence of further professional development e.g. advanced use of Microsoft Office, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) or Structured Query Language (SQL)

Knowledge & Skills

Essential
  • In depth practical knowledge of relational database management systems
  • Extensive experience of developing key performance indicators and constructing complex datasets
  • Understanding of database design, creation, tables, permissions etc
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods
  • Ability to analyse and present highly complex information and to communicate complex concepts to staff from non-IT backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of performance management software such as CHKS iCompare
Desirable
  • Practical knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services
  • In depth practical knowledge of NHS data dictionary, common datasets and NHS central returns
  • Familiar with Acute and Community health services
  • Understanding NHS Data standards

Experience

Essential
  • Use advance features of MS Excel including functions and pivot tables to manipulate and present data
  • Evidence of continual professional development
