Job summary
The Information Department are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join their innovative, award winning team as a Trainee Senior Data Architect.
The Trainee Senior Data Architect (Band 6 Annex 21 70% of top of band) will be working towards gaining skills and experience to be competent in meeting the duties and responsibilities detailed in the job description. This will enable them to be eligible to progress into a qualified Band 6 Senior Data Architect position.
The successful candidate on this salaried scheme will undertake an 18-24 month, on-job training programme, including completion of a data related apprenticeship, designed to give trainee data architects a sound knowledge and skill base from which to develop their career.
This is intended to be a training role, however, if a candidate has all of the skill sets detailed in the person specification, we can appoint into the full role.
The Information Team have developed a reputation for putting Information in the hands of those who need it. You will be responsible for designing and delivering information services/systems to a significant part of the Trust's business, ensuring that high quality information analysis is available to support the delivery of service improvements within their business area and any relevant Corporate requirements.
Main duties of the job
o Support the Information Data Warehouse, ETL and Reporting Frameworks ensuring that they are operational and adequately monitored, that problems are investigated and resolved, that systems availability meets agreed standards, and that future requirements are assessed and fed into resource planning processes.
o Support for reviewing and testing proposed changes to reporting systems and data interchange functionality, making recommendations and ensuring agreed developments are implemented in a controlled and secure way, with risks to data and systems being managed effectively.
o Support for the linking to other corporate and clinical systems, investigating data structures, negotiating access, setting up and implementing connections, and incorporating data into the Trust's reporting infrastructure.
o Providing the identification and evaluation of possible options to achieve the best technical solution considering ease of future maintenance, robustness and scalability.
o Provide and apply expert skills to design, develop, deploy and modify new and existing database and data integration solutions. Use tools and languages such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, T-SQL, Python and XML
o Provide the development of data outputs for reporting, complex SQL views and tables to act as data sources for reports and web-based applications, linking in with other staff from within the department.

Qualifications
- A good honours degree/technical qualification in relevant subject, or relevant experience
- Project management qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development
Skills
- Minimum 1 year relevant epxerience, in relational database design, Extract Transform Load (ETL) and Data Warehousing or Big Data methodologies
- Experience of staff management
- SQL skills, including working knowledge of the MS SQL server BI Stack
- Software programming languages, mainly Python
- Knowledge and experience of business intelligence reporting tools (e.g. PowerBI)
- Experience of working within the NHS, or wider Health market
- Open Source Data Warehousing platforms (e.g. Airflow, Minio)
- oPrevious experience of managing medium-large projects that have utilised project management methodologies
Personal attributes
- Analytical or technical skills with ability to analyse, interpret and resolve complex problems
- Leadership skills including the ability to form excellent relationships
- Good standard of written, verbal and data driven communication skills
- People management skills, developed in a similar environment
Governance
- A general understanding of the NHS and key developments shaping the information agenda
- NHS data standards and terminology, including clinical datasets
- NHS Information and data modelling concepts
- Production and maintenance of documentation
- Knowledge of statistical methods
- Training and mentoring of junior staff
