Medical Secretary - Respiratory

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Respiratory Department as a Medical Secretary, full time, fixed term until the end of March 2027.

We are looking for a hardworking, highly motivated team player who will also be able to work on their own initiative. You must have excellent communication skills and a friendly manner.

You should have a good level of clerical experience and good working knowledge of IT systems although full training in the use of our systems will be provided.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage and support allocated Consultant and team in the Team Leader's absence.
  • To ensure a high standard of secretarial and administrative service are consistently delivered by undertaking / delegating all required tasks and activities on a daily basis.
  • To utilise the required technology / hospital systems including Evolve / Epic and any other new technology or system(s) that are introduced and support other team members to do so to deliver an efficient administrative and secretarial service.
  • To recommend and support the implementation of service improvements to own and team working practice to improve workflow.
  • To train and develop other team members to ensure competencies are developed, sustained and updated and to deliver the required administrative and secretarial service in a changing working environment.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Proven administration experience
  • Proven Medical Secretarial background
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of working with patients face to face
  • Previous experience of working with vulnerable members of the public or within community health setting
Desirable
  • NHS experience
  • Epic experience

Qualifications

Essential
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), C or above, including English & Maths
  • Working knowledge of Medical Terminology
Desirable
  • AMSPAR or working towards attaining AMSPAR qualification

Knowledge

Essential
  • Understanding of the need to maintain Patient Confidentiality
  • Data Protection - knowledge of GDPR requirements and legislation
