Digital Product Manager

Job summary

We are recruiting for a Digital Product Manager who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The role supports the design, development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of clinical and operational digital systems, with a strong focus on electronic patient record (EPR) and related digital products.

The post holder will work across clinical, operational, technical, and supplier teams to ensure systems meet user needs and align with organisational priorities.

A key part of the role involves managing the full product lifecycle, from discovery and requirements gathering through to delivery, adoption, optimisation, and continuous improvement.

The post holder will translate user and service needs into clear product backlogs, user stories, and delivery outcomes, while supporting the development of efficient, user-centred workflows.

The post holder will act as a subject matter expert for assigned systems, providing technical support, resolving issues, and ensuring effective system performance. They will also coordinate system changes, testing, release activities, and ensure compliance with governanceand information management standards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including clinical teams, operational managers, digital and informatics teams,programmeand project managers, system suppliers,developersand senior leadership colleagues.

The role requires strong collaborative working across multidisciplinary teams to support product development, prioritisation,deliveryand adoption of digital solutions.

The post holder will build effective relationships with service users and stakeholders to understand requirements, manage expectations, gather feedback and ensure digital products meet operational, clinicalandorganisationalneeds.

Qualifications/Training

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent professional experience in Health Informatics, Digital, IT, Business or related field
  • Evidence of continued professional development in digital, product management, or healthcare systems
Desirable
  • Formal training in Agile product management, Scrum, or Lean methodologies
  • Certification in ITIL, PRINCE2, or equivalent service/delivery frameworks
  • Qualification in health informatics or digital health leadership

Previous Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience in digital product management, Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems, or large-scale healthcare IT environments
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end product delivery, including roadmaps, backlogs, and prioritised outcomes
  • Experience leading requirements gathering with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and working with multidisciplinary teams across organisations
Desirable
  • Experience leading or coordinating system implementations, releases, and digital transformation initiatives
  • Experience managing change, adoption, and continuous improvement in complex environments

Skills

Essential
  • Ability to define and communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmaps
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, and structured engagement activities
  • Strong communication, reporting, and documentation skills
  • Strategic thinking with ability to align digital products to organisational priorities
Desirable
  • Ability to lead change adoption and support implementation activities
  • Strong commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and delivery in complex environments

Knowledge

Essential
  • In-depth understanding of NHS digital systems, clinical systems, and/or EPR environments
  • Strong knowledge of the full digital product lifecycle (discovery, design, delivery, adoption, optimisation)
  • Understanding of digital transformation, service improvement, and user-centred design principles
  • Knowledge of using data, analytics, and user insight to inform product decisions and prioritisation
Desirable
  • Strong understanding of ITIL/service management processes (change, incident, problem, release management)
  • Strong understanding of NHS information governance, UK GDPR, and data protection
  • Knowledge of clinical safety, risk management, audit, and service continuity requirements
