Job summary

An exciting new opportunity is available to join the the Data Quality & Standards team as a new Data Quality & Standards Specialist.

The role will support the Data Quality & Standards Manager and DQ leads across the Trust to deliver continued improvement in the quality of data and information systems by identifying any Data Quality issues and developing potential solutions along with users, asset owners, administrators, and system providers

This will cover a wide variety of aspects including the use of the front-end Information Systems by operational staff, technical improvements to these systems, improvements to the data processing and supporting delivery of complete, timely and accurate data in the Trust's back end Data Warehouse

This role requires someone with an attention to detail, aptitude for identifying errors in the Trusts reporting data and ability to focus on complex tasks for long periods of time.

This role would suit an individual with experience in relevant Trust roles and the wider NHS, an experience user of Trust information software and an analytical/data skill set.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the DQ&S team are to :

  • Identify potential Data Quality issues contained in key Trust information systems, the Data Warehouse and Data Lake.
  • Extract, collate, and interpret information from multiple Trust systems.
  • Create queries in SQL for implementation to the Trusts Data Quality tool for monitoring and cleanse activity by system users and administrators.
  • Work with Asset Owners to resolve system related Data Quality issues which are affecting Trust reporting.
  • Work with Operational teams to create/refine processes to reduce input of incorrect data and user errors which could affect Trust reporting.
  • Create additional reporting on DQ issues in Excel and Power BI .
  • Create detailed assurance reports on identified DQ issues for escalation through internal governance processes.

The Data Quality & Standards team was established to increase wider focus on Data Quality issues across the organisation.

The successful applicant will be part of a small team who interact with many other teams across different directorates of the organisation, including technical and non-technical disciplines and operational and non-operational staff.

We are collaborative , open and supportive team, consisting of staff with a wealth of understanding of many roles and systems across the organisation. However, we also draw on the expertise of multiple specialists across the Digital directorate and our operational colleagues to achieve the shared goal of improving data quality in line with the Trusts policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to postgraduate level in Computing & IT or Technology discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a role which involved specialist knowledge of at least one the following systems: oCleric CAD (999) oCleric CAD (PTS) oGRS (Rostering) oESR
  • In-depth understanding of the national standards by which the organisation is governed
Desirable
  • In depth understanding of Software Engineering documentation (e.g. UML) to replicate system processes and identify necessary changes in conjunction with system providers.
  • Understanding of several disciplines e.g. financial management, performance management, information systems and staff management

  • Able to communicate complex, contentious, and sensitive information to technical and non-technical staff / stakeholders.

  • Excellent Microsoft skills including advanced Excel
  • In depth knowledge of the Trusts national reporting guidelines (including AQI's)

Experience

Essential
  • Experience working with highly complex and sensitive data
  • In depth understanding of the NHS and data protection policies
  • Good planning and organisational skills to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience liaising with customers and executives
Desirable
  • Experienced in presenting complex and contentious data at large executive meetings.
  • Experience in maintaining policies and procedures in line with the Trusts requirements.

Essential
  • Ability to work as a team to resolve DQ issues across multiple systems.
  • Confidence and ability to act and implement changes as the Trusts technical specialist advising organisation leaders on the changes required to meet the national reporting requirements.
  • Confident in advising senior managers internally and externally to the organisation to follow your recommendations
  • Ability to focus for extended periods of time on highly complex data
  • Self-discipline and organisation skills to work for alone on tasks for a long period of time
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality of patient and colleague's data
