About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with strong strategic planning experience across Data, Technology and Cloud.

This is not a hands-on delivery role. The successful candidate will sit upstream of delivery, working with senior stakeholders, internal technology teams and external suppliers to understand business priorities, shape the roadmap and establish clear plans for how the organisation should move forward.

The role will involve taking complex Data and Cloud requirements and translating them into a prioritised, achievable strategic roadmap, ensuring the right initiatives are identified, sequenced and aligned to wider business objectives.

As the organisation transitions away from reliance on external consultancies and builds its internal capability, you will play a key role in planning and shaping the future state, rather than owning the day-to-day execution of individual projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop the strategic roadmap across Data, Cloud and Technology initiatives.
  • Work with senior business and technology stakeholders to understand priorities, objectives and future requirements.
  • Translate business strategy and complex technical requirements into clear, prioritised programmes of work.
  • Assess competing initiatives, dependencies, risks and resource requirements to determine what should be prioritised and when.
  • Establish delivery frameworks, high-level plans, timelines and dependencies to enable successful execution by technical teams and suppliers.
  • Work closely with internal engineering, data and technology teams to ensure proposed initiatives are realistic and aligned to the wider technology landscape.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and challenge stakeholders where appropriate, helping to shape investment and prioritisation decisions.
  • Maintain oversight of the roadmap, adapting priorities as business requirements, technology or organisational needs change.
  • Coordinate across multiple suppliers and internal teams at a strategic planning level, without being responsible for the day-to-day management of delivery teams.
  • Provide clear reporting to senior stakeholders around roadmap progress, priorities, risks, dependencies and future requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Project / Programme Management experience within Data, Technology or Cloud environments.
  • Demonstrable experience of strategic planning and roadmap ownership, rather than solely project delivery.
  • Experience translating business objectives into prioritised technology or data initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Data and/or Cloud transformation.
  • Confident working with senior stakeholders and influencing strategic decisions.
  • Experience managing complex dependencies across multiple technology teams and suppliers.
  • Strong commercial and analytical thinking, with the ability to assess priorities, risks, resources and business value.
  • Excellent communication, planning and governance skills.
  • Comfortable operating between business strategy and technical delivery teams.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will be someone who can answer:

“What should we be doing, why should we be doing it, and in what order?”

rather than simply:

“How do we deliver what has already been agreed?”

This is a role for someone who can shape the roadmap and strategically plan the delivery of Data & Cloud change, working with delivery teams rather than being the person responsible for physically delivering every project.

The role requires the successful candidate to work onsite 1 day a week, either in London or York, with the remainder remote.
