Founding VR Engineer

We are seeking a Founding VR Engineer to own the design of our VR teleoperation environment for intuitive remote control for bimanual control of our robot. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to build a truly exceptional, deployment ready, robot.

Location & Working Setup:

You must be willing to relocate to San Francisco by March 30 and work in-person from a shared live/work environment for 3 months. We call it a hacker house. It’s a focused, high-output environment built around shipping. We can help with visas if you are from the UK or EU.

What you will own:

  • Develop a VR teleoperation environment for initiative bimanual control of a semi-humanoid robot in under 3 months.
  • Integrate robot sensor streams (point clouds, RGB frames, pose, IMU) into the VR scene so operators get the information and tools required for safe, precise control.
  • Implement robust operator interfaces: IK/arm mapping, depth augmentation, and predictive/compensatory displays for latency.
  • Reduce operator cognitive load through spatial UI, layered sensor overlays, and ergonomics-driven control mappings informed by operator feedback.
  • Debug hard to reproduce issues and propose solutions with minimum impact to operations.
  • Work in close collaboration with our multidisciplinary team to ensure all design requirements are met and standards upheld.
  • Produce and maintain clear developer and operator documentation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Obsessed with creating excellent immersive VR environments.
  • Deep experience building immersive VR apps, ideally targeting Meta Quest devices.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and C++ and practical experience in Unity or a comparable engine.
  • Strong analytical debugging skills and experience diagnosing low-latency, networked systems.
  • Excellent cross-discipline communication and collaboration.

Required:

  • A portfolio of your previous work and projects (we put a tremendous amount of value on this).

Desirable:

  • Experience with ROS2 and integrating robot sensor topics into external applications.
  • Experience consuming point clouds and camera frames efficiently in VR (GPU streaming, passthrough compositing).

We move fast. If you meet the bar and can relocate by March 30, 2026, apply now.
