Technical SEO Specialist (Next.js Directory Website)
We are hiring a Technical SEO Specialist to work on a live, growing directory website built with Next.js.
This is not a basic SEO role. The website already receives traffic and rankings — the focus is on technical SEO, structure, and scaling location-based pages across the UK.
🚀 About the ProjectWe operate a location-based directory platform targeting UK cities (e.g. Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Chesterfield, etc.).
The site is scaling quickly, and we need someone who can fix structural SEO issues and build a system that supports long-term growth across 50+ cities.
🔥 Key Challenges- Tag pages currently ranking instead of main city pages
- Duplicate content and canonical conflicts
- Large number of “crawled but not indexed” pages
- Scaling SEO across many city pages
- Improving internal linking between locations
- Ensuring a clean, long-term SEO structure
- Perform a real technical SEO audit (not generic reports)
- Fix duplicate URL structures and canonical issues
- Implement proper redirect strategy (tag pages → main city pages)
- Improve crawl efficiency and indexation
- Optimise city pages for rankings (without keyword stuffing)
- Build scalable SEO structure for future city expansion
- Design internal linking strategy between locations
- Work alongside developer (Next.js environment)
- Strong experience in technical SEO
- Experience with directory / marketplace / location-based SEO
- Deep understanding of:
- canonical tags
- crawl/index issues
- URL structures
- Google Search Console
- Ability to provide solutions, not just reports
- Focus mainly on backlinks or link packages
- Use outdated SEO methods (web 2.0, directory submissions, etc.)
- Provide generic SEO audits without clear actions
- Main city pages ranking (not tag pages)
- Improved indexing across the site
- Stronger rankings across UK city keywords
- Clean, scalable SEO structure
