• Dataset preparation, labelling strategy, quality assurance and model evaluation
• Working with engineers and industry partners to validate model outputs
• Supporting integration of AI models into Efestos’ existing digital platform
Skills and experience we are looking forEssential:
• Strong Python programming skills
• Experience with machine learning and deep learning
• Experience with convolutional neural networks
• Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow/Keras
• Experience with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV
• Ability to work with real-world, imperfect image datasets
• Understanding of classification, object detection and/or segmentation workflows
• Experience with model training, validation, testing and performance reporting
• Good coding discipline, documentation and Git-based collaboration
Desirable:
• Experience with YOLO, Mask R-CNN, U-Net, Detectron2, Segment Anything or similar models
• Experience with data annotation tools such as CVAT, Label Studio or Roboflow
• Experience with MLOps, experiment tracking or model deployment
• Familiarity with FastAPI, Docker, cloud/GPU environments or model APIs
• Experience in engineering, construction, materials, manufacturing, inspection or robotics
• Interest in sustainability, circular economy and low-carbon construction
Candidate profileWe are open to candidates from different backgrounds, including:
• AI / ML engineers
• Computer vision researchers
• PhD students or postdoctoral researchers
• Data scientists with strong image-analysis experience
• Software engineers with applied ML experience
• Civil, structural or mechanical engineers with strong AI skills
You do not need prior experience in steel reuse, but you should be excited by the idea of applying AI to a real industrial challenge with environmental impact.
Contract structureThese are fixed-term / contract roles linked to funded R&D delivery. We are looking for people who can start quickly and contribute to a fast-moving technical programme over the coming months.
The roles may be part-time or full-time depending on availability, experience and project fit.
