Communication Engineer
We are seeking a highly experienced Communications Engineer to join a dynamic team supporting naval defence platforms. With a strong background in systems integration, stakeholder engagement, and feasibility analysis, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime communications systems.Our client offers a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, located in the Bristol area. You’ll be working alongside experts in naval engineering and communications, contributing to cutting-edge defence projects that make a real impact.About the Role This is a contract opportunity for a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Perso. The successful candidate will be responsible for the integration and acquisition of C4I Information Systems, supporting naval platform development and in-service support. You will be expected to produce high-quality technical documentation, manage stakeholder relationships, and deliver feasibility studies aligned with client objectives.Key Skills & Experience Required – About You Essential:
- Degree-qualified in Electronic, Communications, or Computer Science Engineering (or similar), with chartership and 5+ years’ experience. Alternatively, 9+ years’ experience without chartership.
- Demonstrable experience within the last 5 years in:
- Integrating communications systems onto complex platforms.
- Conducting feasibility studies and cost analyses.
- Designing and acquiring C4I systems for naval platforms.
- Engaging stakeholders to define system requirements and generate high-level costings.
- Managing design activities during ship acquisition and in-service support.
- Proven ability to produce clear, structured, and logically written reports under tight deadlines. Desirable:
- Evidence of ongoing CPD if chartership is not held.
- Understanding of UK maritime commercial and defence industries.
- Familiarity with high-capacity terrestrial and non-terrestrial communications systems.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary, multi-company environments on large projects (preferably ship-based).
- Strong presentation skills and a proactive, collaborative attitude.
