We are seeking a Principal Systems Administrator to deliver advanced technical solutions, shape complex architecture, and provide structural guidance for key infrastructure projects within the defence sector.

The Setup & Location
- Location: Cheltenham
- Working Pattern: Hybrid (with up to 25% domestic travel, and occasional international travel)
- Status: Permanent
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the Systems Administration Lead on advanced projects and major programmes, guiding team members and advising management.
- Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot complex infrastructure, cloud deployments, and application performance.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain, follow, and disseminate approved operational procedures aligned with ISO20000 and ISO27001 standards.
- Service Resilience: Participate in a technical roster to support 24/7 services and manage planned out-of-hours infrastructure changes.
Skills & Background Required
We are looking for a strong technical foundation across several of the following areas:
- Virtualisation & Storage: VMware vSphere 8.0+ and Fibre Channel Storage (Dell / NetApp).
- Microsoft & Citrix Ecosystem: Windows Server 2019/2022, Exchange, Office 365, Active Directory Federated trusts, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, and Citrix NetScaler.
- Cloud & Automation: AWS or Azure, alongside Linux and Ansible.
- Databases & Frameworks: MS SQL Server 2019 and familiarity with ITIL, Agile, or Scrum methodologies.
- Networking: Sound knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and MPLS.
Security & Nationality Constraints
- Due to the nature of these projects, Sole British Nationality is required for this position.
- Candidates must hold, or be fully eligible to obtain and maintain, UK Government security clearance (SC level).
