Technology Lawyer

An exciting opportunity for an experienced technology lawyer to join a high-performing in-house legal team and provide strategic and commercial legal support across a broad range of digital and technology initiatives.

Working closely with senior stakeholders in Technology, Digital and Information Security, this role will advise on complex legal matters relating to software and cloud contracting, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (including generative AI), and data governance. The successful candidate will also contribute to the ongoing development of the legal function, including process improvements, knowledge sharing and external counsel management.

As part of the Legal leadership team, this role will help shape legal strategy, drive best practice and support the wider team in delivering practical, commercially focused advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of technology and digital contracts, including SaaS agreements, software licences, cloud services, IT outsourcing and data sharing arrangements.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues relating to cybersecurity, AI and generative AI, data governance and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments for new technology projects and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Support the business in implementing innovative technology solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal governance standards.
  • Manage and instruct external law firms where specialist advice is required.
  • Keep abreast of developments in technology law and translate legal and regulatory changes into practical guidance for the business.
  • Deliver training and know-how sessions to legal colleagues and business stakeholders on technology-related topics.
  • Contribute to the development of legal processes, templates and policies to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Participate in cross-functional working groups focused on technology, innovation and responsible use of AI.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring within the legal team and support broader strategic initiatives.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  • Significant post-qualification experience in technology, commercial and digital law.
  • Strong experience negotiating complex technology agreements, including SaaS and cloud contracts.
  • In-depth understanding of legal issues relating to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data protection and digital services.
  • Ability to provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience managing external counsel and overseeing complex legal workstreams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior lawyers or delivering internal training is advantageous.
  • Interest in emerging technologies and the responsible adoption of innovation.
