They are now expanding their expert engineering team and are seeking a senior data centre professional to contribute to their global portfolio.The Opportunity This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior M&E Data Centre Engineer to move into a remote-first role that combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic, site-specific project work. While your base will be anywhere in the UK, you will act as a key technical resource for data centre operations across Europe and beyond. This role is not a desk job; it requires a blend of remote duties and regular, planned travel to various facilities for critical projects and high-level technical support.You will be a trusted authority, providing technical guidance to on-site teams and leading commissioning, upgrade, and major maintenance projects. Your experience will be leveraged to optimise and standardise M&E systems across a diverse and growing portfolio.Key Responsibilities
  • Remote Technical Support: Act as the first point of contact for complex M&E issues from on-site engineering teams across our client’s European portfolio. Provide remote diagnosis, troubleshooting, and guidance to ensure swift resolution.
  • Project Leadership: Take a leading role in the commissioning and handover of new data centre builds and major upgrades. Oversee critical mechanical and electrical projects, ensuring they are completed to the highest standards.
  • M&E Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the go-to expert for all things M&E. Your knowledge will be instrumental in the design review of new facilities, ensuring all systems are robust, efficient, and meet the company's rigorous standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Develop, refine, and enforce best practice for M&E maintenance, procedures, and documentation. Conduct audits to ensure site teams are in full compliance with operational standards and safety protocols.
  • Troubleshooting: Use your extensive experience to perform root cause analysis (RCA) for complex incidents, providing detailed reports and actionable recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate effectively with senior management, project teams, and external vendors. Your ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of stakeholders is crucial.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of hands-on M&E experience within a data centre or other mission-critical environment
  • Background: We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked for a recognised data centre consultancy or a hyperscaler due to the scale and complexity of their operations. However, all backgrounds demonstrating a senior level of M&E expertise in a critical environment will be considered.
  • M&E Focus: Deep technical knowledge of both Mechanical (HVAC, chillers, CRAH units, cooling systems) and Electrical (high-voltage power, UPS, generators, switchgear) systems.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel regionally and internationally, often at short notice, to support critical projects and incidents.
  • Soft Skills: A self-motivated, autonomous, and highly organised individual who can manage their own schedule and workload effectively from a remote location.
  • Right to Work: You must hold the right to work in the UK already.
