Legal Counsel: UK Consumer Business & EU Compliance
Location: United Kingdom (London) Experience: 3+ Years PQE (Solicitor or equivalent)
We are seeking a proactive and commercially-minded Legal Counsel to join the in-house legal team of a leading global technology company specializing in innovative consumer electronics and related services. This role is central to ensuring the growth and legal integrity of our UK and European consumer operations.
Key Responsibilities
You will be the primary legal support for our UK Consumer Business (B2C) operations, managing day-to-day legal risks and ensuring regulatory adherence across the full product lifecycle and customer journey.
- Product Launch Compliance: Conduct comprehensive legal compliance reviews for all new product features and launches, ensuring full adherence to UK legal and electronic product market entry requirements.
- Privacy & E-commerce: Review and advise on all privacy protection measures concerning online store operations, consumer services, and product features, specializing in UK GDPR and PECR compliance.
- Commercial Support: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with UK consumer business partners, providing daily legal advice and clear risk assessments to business stakeholders.
- Dispute & Regulatory Management: Manage responses to regulatory inquiries and provide essential legal opinions and support in resolving consumer complaints, disputes, and related case handling.
- EU Marketing Compliance: Conduct legal review of English-language marketing and promotional materials for our consumer business across Europe, ensuring compliance with relevant EU consumer protection and advertising laws.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a UK-qualified solicitor or lawyer with proven experience in the consumer technology, e-commerce, or highly regulated sectors.
- Education & License: Must hold a Law School education in the UK and be a licensed solicitor (or equivalent) with more than 3 years Post-Qualified Experience (PQE), gained either in-house or at a major law firm.
- Core Legal Expertise (UK B2C):
- Deep practical knowledge of UK consumer protection legislation (e.g., Consumer Rights Act, Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations).
- Expertise in advertising and marketing compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and PECR.
- Familiarity with electronic product compliance and market entry rules.
- European Law: Solid understanding of EU consumer protection and relevant marketing/promotion law to support wider European legal review.
