Radio Frequency Design Engineer
An established international semiconductor technology business is expanding its UK-based RF design team. The company develops high-performance, energy-efficient silicon solutions used in billions of connected devices worldwide, spanning mobile communications, intelligent consumer products, computing, automotive platforms and data-centre infrastructure.
This is an opportunity to contribute to next-generation cellular technology, working within an experienced global engineering organisation on advanced RF integrated circuits and future 6G products.
The Role
You will take ownership of RF IC sub-systems throughout the complete development cycle—from initial specification and architectural definition through circuit implementation and verification.
The position will focus on creating innovative RF signal-path or frequency-synthesis solutions in advanced CMOS processes. A key objective will be to achieve industry-leading performance and robust first-silicon results suitable for volume production.
Key Responsibilities
- Define specifications and architectures for complex RF IC sub-systems.
- Design, implement and verify RF signal-path or synthesizer circuits.
- Analyse system-level RF requirements in collaboration with systems and applications engineers.
- Optimise circuits for performance, power consumption, integration and manufacturability.
- Guide and review RF IC layout implementation in advanced CMOS nodes.
- Address the integration challenges associated with complex RF systems-on-chip.
- Support designs through verification, silicon evaluation and progression towards mass production.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering teams located across different countries and time zones.
Required Background
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD qualification in electronic engineering, microelectronics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering high-performance CMOS RF transceivers into mass production.
- Strong knowledge of RF system analysis and cellular RF performance requirements.
- Practical design experience using advanced CMOS technologies at 16 nm or below.
- A thorough understanding of complex RF SoC integration.
- Expertise in RF IC layout optimisation and the ability to provide effective technical direction during layout implementation.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving abilities.
- The confidence to work independently while contributing effectively to complex team projects.
- Clear communication, organisation and time-management skills.
Technical Experience
- Cadence Analog Design Environment.
- Electromagnetic simulation tools.
- MATLAB and/or Python for engineering data analysis.
