Senior FPGA Engineer - VHDL / DSP
We are working with an innovative and fast-growing engineering company in Bristol that is a leader in Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS).
Their technology is deployed across a wide range of industries including construction, defence, oil and gas pipelines, border surveillance, subsea cable monitoring and industrial environments.
Their work sits at the intersection of hardware, signal processing and real-time systems, supporting applications where precision, reliability and performance are critical.
They are now looking to hire a Senior FPGA Engineer to join their highly specialised team.
You will join a close-knit FPGA team, playing a key role in the development of high-performance systems involving real-time data processing and complex signal environments.
With a senior contractor approaching retirement, this role offers a clear pathway into team leadership, giving you the opportunity to shape both technical direction and team growth.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop FPGA solutions using VHDL on AMD Xilinx platforms (Vivado)
- Work on advanced DSP-focused applications in RF and sensing systems
- Develop and optimise systems using Xilinx RFSoC and Software Defined Radio technologies
- Interface with on-chip ARM cores and external DDR memory
- Contribute to system-level architecture across hardware and embedded software
- Support multi-clock system design and GPS synchronisation
- Take ownership of technical challenges and proactively drive solutions
What they're looking for:
- 5+ years of FPGA development experience
- Strong VHDL expertise on AMD Xilinx platforms
- Experience with Xilinx RFSoC and or Software Defined Radio
- Solid background in DSP
- Experience working with ARM cores and external DDR
- Good understanding of wider system architecture
- Experience with multi-clock designs and synchronisation techniques
- Ambitious, proactive and comfortable taking ownership
- Clear leadership potential
