We’re supporting a high-growth digital platform business on a key senior engineering leadership hire as they continue scaling a modern product and engineering organisation across the UK and Europe.

This is a rare opportunity for a deeply technical engineering leader to operate at a strategic level while remaining close to architecture, systems design, engineering quality, and modern AI-driven development practices.

The business is specifically looking for someone who can elevate engineering organisations through technical credibility rather than pure process or people management.

This role would suit:

• A current Director of Engineering who still operates close to the technology
• A highly influential Staff or Principal Engineer ready to step into broader organisational leadership
• A senior engineering leader from a fast-paced product or platform environment who enjoys solving complex technical and organisational problems

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading multiple engineering teams through engineering managers
• Driving architectural and engineering best practices across a modern product environment
• Partnering closely with senior product and engineering leadership
• Influencing system design, scalability, platform evolution, and engineering quality
• Helping shape how AI tooling and AI-assisted workflows improve engineering effectiveness
• Supporting a high-growth engineering environment with strong delivery expectations

What we’re looking for:

• Strong technical depth across modern backend/platform engineering environments
• Deep understanding of architecture and distributed systems
• Experience operating within high-growth product or platform businesses
• Strong engineering judgement and systems thinking
• Comfortable with challenging technical decisions and influencing senior technical stakeholders
• Interest and practical exposure to AI-native engineering workflows and tooling
• Experience leading through engineering managers or technical leadership structures
