We are looking for a motivated and eager-to-learn Junior Database Administrator to join our team. In this role, you will help manage and maintain our databases, ensuring data integrity and optimising performance. You will work closely with other team members to support business functions, troubleshoot issues, and maintain clear and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and maintaining databases, ensuring they perform efficiently and securely | SQL Server.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of database structures, ensuring consistency and data integrity.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to manage data and monitor database performance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting database issues and implementing fixes in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data solutions meet business needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for database structures, processes, and configurations.
  • Stay up to date with database technologies and contribute to improving database management practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SQL: Some hands-on experience with SQL queries, working with databases, CTEs, data management and backup / restore procedures - whether through previous roles, personal projects, or education.
  • Understanding of Database Management: Basic knowledge of how to manage and optimize databases, with a willingness to grow in this area.
  • Desire to Learn: Strong commitment to continuous self-paced learning and development, with support from the team.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Enjoys tackling challenges and finding efficient solutions to technical issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Comfortable working in a team-oriented environment and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior Experience: Previous work, personal projects, or education involving databases, SQL, or data management.
  • We value practical experience and a willingness to learn. A formal degree is not required, as we expect the ideal candidate to showcase their dedication to continuous development.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Database Management Knowledge: Some exposure to managing or working with databases.
  • Programming Interest: Enjoys coding and exploring automation (experience in PowerShell or similar languages is a plus).
  • Familiarity with BI Tools: Exposure to tools like Power BI or similar reporting platforms.
  • Data Modelling Awareness: Basic understanding of data modelling concepts, such as designing schemas or relationships between datasets.

Hybrid Working Policy: The role requires at least 2 days per week in our Peterlee office. Applicants must be aware of the travel required for this role and only apply if deemed appropriate.
