Role Description:
Job Description - Packaging SME
One of the main functions of End User Computing is to provide application packaging and deployment services across the client estate supporting client request and for key projects.
The Application Packager/Software Packager will be responsible for packaging, testing and deploying all applications used on End User devices to high service standard.
To apply for this role you will need to have the ability to achieve SC Security Clearance (UK National).
Job Duties
- To develop, test and maintain software packages for distribution to user desktops, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
- To build and maintain images containing operating system and core applications for distribution to user desktops, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
- To maintain effective local documentation including standard operating procedures, best practices, and methodologies for application packaging and OS deployment.
- To develop and maintain skills in Microsoft Windows, OS deployment and software packaging technologies, including assessing how they may be deployed into existing services or developed into new ones.
- Contribute to the development of the End User Computing infrastructure, particularly relating to applications and image deployment, assisting with the development of technical methodologies, best practice, policies, procedures and associated documentation.
- Contribute to the ongoing software selection and management, particularly relating to applications and image deployment, best practice, policies, procedures and associated documentation.
- Other reasonable duties at the request of your management.
- Be active in ensuring your own continuing professional development and participate in relevant professional activities.
Typical Skills Required (3-5 yrs experience +)
- Vendor install methodologies - know the common vendor install silent techniques, how to tear apart a vendor install and use its components to create a silent install.
- The ability to edit and create code in a readable manner, to understand other peoples code. Create code from scratch.
- ADT - Application Developers Toolkit. A thorough understanding of the now standard toolkit, how to use it efficiently, how to extend its functionality.
- SCCM Current Branch. Create applications/collections/queries/detection methods in SCCM, and to deploy those applications.
- MSI Packaging - Detailed Knowledge of MSI editing techniques, custom actions, transforms, patches etc.

- Understanding of commercial models and costing development
- Ability to manage and control technical risks and work with assumptions
- Architectural Documentation standards (HLD, DLD, Build & Standard Operating Procedures)
