Lead Backend Software Developer (Typescript)

Hybrid: 2 days a week in London
 

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our small, high-impact software team, reporting directly to the CTO. You will take the lead in building and scaling a robust event-driven backend infrastructure in AWS, while also contributing across architecture, performance, and DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and build scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript on a modern serverless AWS stack
2. Lead improvements in performance, reliability, and code quality
3. Improve and maintain CI CD pipelines, test automation, and internal tooling
4. Collaborate across teams — including support for Machine Learning workloads and Data Engineering
5. Contribute to architecture discussions, technical documentation, and internal best practices
6. Key skills: TypeScript, AWS Lambda, Kinesis, EventBridge, CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Python (for ML), JIRA, Confluence

Key skills:

1. Five years’ experience in backend engineering
2. Advanced skills in TypeScript and modern AWS (especially Lambda, Kinesis, EventBridge)
3. Experience with infrastructure-as-code (CDK2 preferred)
4.  Strong attention to detail and ability to work autonomously
5. Comfortable writing clean tickets and documentation
6.  Experience with Python and data streaming
7.  Working knowledge of Agile tools like JIRA and Confluence
