Lead Service Designer

Lead Service Designer - £75,000-£90,000 + 5% bonus - UK-wide

(Hybrid with travel to 1-2 days per month)

Shape the future of public services We're looking for a Lead Service Designer to guide the design of complex, user-centred services for a major government department. You'll set the vision, foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and make a real difference to how citizens interact with essential services.

What you'll do

• Lead complex service design projects from concept to delivery
• Champion user-centred design and GOV.UK service standards
• Coach and mentor teams in iterative, hypothesis-driven design practices
• Plan and run inclusive, accessible, and sustainable design sessions
• Integrate data-driven insights into design decisions
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
• Align user needs with organisational goals in a complex, evolving landscape

What you'll bring

• Proven track record leading service design in government/public services
• Strong understanding of GOV.UK service standard
• Expertise in inclusive and accessible design
• Experience mentoring and coaching design teams
• Strategic thinking and ability to communicate design vision to senior leaders
• Degree or equivalent experience in Service Design, UX, Interaction Design, or similar

Desirable extras

Experience in consultancy and opening new account spaces

Multi-disciplinary design skill set

User research leadership experience

SC clearance (or eligibility)

Salary: £75,000-£90,000 + 5% variable bonus

Location: UK-wide with hybrid working and occasional travel

Clearance: Must be SC eligible
