Accessibility Consultant

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Accessibility Consultant to work for our client within financial services the sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be an onsite role based in Alderley Park.

Our client is seeking an accomplished and highly experienced Senior Accessibility Consultant with deep expertise in digital accessibility. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in independently conducting comprehensive accessibility audits of native mobile applications (iOS and Android) in alignment with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.

In addition to mobile auditing, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong proficiency in assessing the accessibility of websites and PDF documents, and be confident in delivering actionable recommendations that support compliance and inclusive user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive accessibility audits of native mobile applications (iOS and Android) to WCAG 2.2 AA standards while assessing web and PDF content for accessibility compliance
  • Create detailed accessibility reports outlining issues and providing actionable recommendations
  • Advise teams on accessibility best practices, including design and development considerations
  • Mentor and coach colleagues to improve accessibility awareness and implementation while delivering training sessions as well as supporting documentation on accessibility standards and tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, such as designers, developers and product teams to implement best practices
  • Utilise tools such as Talkback, JAWS and technologies like JavaScript and HTML supporting accessibility
  • Ensure accessibility standards and regulatory compliance is adhered to

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in accessibility consultancy roles
  • Proven track record of conducting accessibility audits/assessments and creating accessibility reports on mobile and web
  • Proficiency in analysing internal/external accessibility reports and providing actionable recommendations with strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience in creating documentation on accessibility standards and best practices
  • Proven track record of supporting the delivery of accessibility cross-platform digital solutions
  • Ability to identify common accessibility issues and to advise/guide individuals and team on accessibility best practice
  • Experience in mentoring, training and coaching colleagues on accessibility best practices
  • Ability to understand the sustainability and impact of decisions and their impact on business performance and efficiency
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and how they apply to accessibility
  • Solid understanding of accessibility testing, quality assurance and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to accessibility (for UK and Ireland)
  • Strong understanding of ARIA, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other front-end technologies
  • Hands on experience with assistive technologies such as NVDA, Talkback, VoiceOver, ZoomText and JAWS as well as experience using accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, CCA, Siteimprove browser extension, Accessibility Insight for Web)
