Cloud Engineer
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Cloud Engineer to work for our client within the retail sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.
This project involves designing, building, and maintaining large-scale, cloud-based microservices capable of processing millions of records daily. Working within an enterprise environment, you’ll contribute to the architecture and infrastructure on AWS, leveraging Kafka, while also providing technical leadership and fostering team performance through knowledge sharing and innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy cloud infrastructure using Terraform across multiple environments
- Build, configure, and manage Kafka clusters for real-time data streaming
- Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using Bosun
- Automate infrastructure provisioning through CI/CD pipelines
- Optimize Kafka performance including topic configuration and consumer management
- Collaborate with development teams on infrastructure requirements
- Maintain documentation and best practices
- 3-5 years in Cloud Engineering or DevOps roles
- Strong experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning
- Hands-on experience managing Apache Kafka in production
- Proficiency with Bosun for monitoring and alerting
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS)
- Experience with CI/CD tools and automation
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar)
Desirable:
- Experience with New Relic for observability
- Knowledge of Kafka Connect or Kafka Streams
- Containerization experience (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Cloud platform certifications
