Data & MI Analyst

DM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data & MI Analyst to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in various UK office locations such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds.

Our client is looking for an experienced Data & MI Analyst who is detail focused, adaptable and has critical thinking skills. You will critically evaluate data from disparate sources to interpret results and provide recommendations while effectively communicating between stakeholders, business service owners and the project. You will also respond to challenges as well as work as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes while mentoring and supporting junior members of the team.

In this role, you will work alongside other Analysts, Change Practitioners and Business Architects, providing expert information analytics to support the delivery of the organisation’s transformation, driving operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and understand business problems to identify and implement appropriate data solutions
  • Lead the development and creation of data models and structures to guide service as well as process design across the organisation
  • Collect and analyse complex datasets, using a range modelling techniques to derive insights as well as predict trends
  • Produce compelling visualisations, reports and presentations to provide actionable insights to colleagues at all levels across the organisation
  • Lead the planning and performance reporting frameworks as well as defining KPIs to maximise operational excellence
  • Analyse, model and forecast the impact of change initiatives on existing operational and financial KPIs
  • Utilise programming skills for data and analytics, identifying, collecting and migrating data to/from a range of systems
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, explaining the relationship between data models and operational service, highlighting risks where appropriate
  • Work effectively with project, IT and Digital resources as well as staff across the organisation, supporting day to day operations to deliver against priorities while performing line and/or matrix management of junior staff, as required
  • Drive best practice in Data Analysis methods, tools and ways of working, within the Change Team and across the organisation

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Data Analyst, Data Scientist or Operational Data role
  • Demonstrable experience translating business issues into high quality data and MI analysis outputs that drive insight and decision-making
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels including technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to successfully work collaboratively, balancing competing demands with working to agreed deliverables and deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with proficiency in Structure Query Language (SQL) and Microsoft Power Platform (PowerBI, Automate)
  • Strong IT and mathematical skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems and ways of working

Desirable

  • Good knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R or Data Analyst Expressions (DAX)
  • Good working knowledge of data security and data protection requirements
  • First or second-class honours degree in a numerate discipline, data science, computer science or IT equivalent, demonstrating core statistical skills
  • Skills in Cloud (Azure) tooling and deployment
  • Working as per Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework
  • Data analysis, modelling, cleansing and enrichment skills
  • Data Management, quality assurance, validation and linkage
  • Data Visualisation, performance analysis with logical & creative thinking skills
  • Project Management and communication skills
  • Statistical methods and data analysis
