Technical Architect – Azure (Contract | Outside IR35) - Taunton.

The Opportunity

We’re working with a leading consultancy delivering enterprise-scale digital transformation programmes, currently seeking an experienced Technical Architect to lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable cloud solutions.

This is a high-impact contract role focused on shaping Azure-based architectures within a regulated environment — ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement.

• Day Rate: £450/day (Outside IR35)
• Clearance: Active SC clearance required

The Role

As a Technical Architect, you will take ownership of the end-to-end architecture across Azure-hosted platforms. You’ll define technical direction, ensure alignment with enterprise strategy, and guide engineering teams in delivering robust, future-proof solutions.

You’ll act as the technical authority across the programme — balancing innovation, security, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own architecture blueprints for Azure-based solutions
• Establish and enforce coding, design, and configuration standards
• Collaborate with engineering, QA, and delivery teams to ensure alignment
• Lead the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and governance standards
• Document architectural decisions and designs (e.g. via SharePoint)
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure adherence to best practices
• Provide hands-on guidance for complex technical challenges
• Identify opportunities for system modernisation and optimisation

Required Experience

• Strong experience designing solutions on Microsoft Azure
• Proven background in microservices architecture and API design
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and automation
• Solid understanding of security frameworks and compliance standards
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to operate in complex, enterprise-scale environments

Desirable Experience

• Exposure to DevOps / DevSecOps practices
• Experience within regulated industries (e.g. public sector, finance)
• Knowledge of performance tuning and monitoring tools
• Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premise integrations
