Storage Engineer, Pure Storage

Storage Engineer, Pure Storage

We are recruiting for a highly experienced Storage Engineer for our IT services client, a Pure Storage Engineer with deep hands-on expertise across enterprise SAN, NAS, and backup platforms, with Pure Storage as a core technology. The role supports complex storage refresh, migration, and integration activities within a live production data centre, operating under strict change control and governance frameworks typical of financial services environments.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical leadership, end-to-end project delivery experience, and a disciplined approach to working in environments supporting business-critical and payment services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise storage solutions, with a primary focus on Pure Storage Flash arrays, alongside broader SAN and NAS platforms.
  • Deliver storage migration and refresh activities, including data movement, cutovers, validation, and post-migration support.
  • Configure and manage Fibre Channel SANs, including zoning, host presentation, and integration with network teams.
  • Support backup and recovery platforms (eg NetBackup, Networker, Avamar, Rubrik) and ensure alignment with DR and resilience requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with compute and network engineers to ensure seamless end-to-end infrastructure delivery.
  • Produce and maintain high- and low-level design documentation, implementation plans, and operational handover materials.
  • Participate in and adhere to formal change management processes, ensuring all work is approved, auditable, and risk-assessed prior to execution.
  • Identify and escalate risks proactively, particularly where actions could impact live production or payment services.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years' experience as a Storage Engineer or Storage Consultant in enterprise data centre environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Pure Storage platforms (installation, configuration, migration, and support).
  • Broad experience across SAN, NAS, and backup technologies, including multi-vendor environments.
  • Proven experience delivering storage projects end-to-end, from design through implementation and operational handover.
  • Strong understanding of DR concepts, replication, resilience, and data protection strategies.
  • Working knowledge of virtualised environments (VMware) and Windows/Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned change control, incident, and problem management processes.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in financial services or other regulated environments.
  • Vendor certifications (Pure Storage, Dell EMC, NetApp, Brocade).
  • Experience acting as a resident engineer or storage SME within large client organisations.
