DATA PRODUCT OWNER/MODELLER – GLOBAL MARKETS – SENIOR DIRECTOR

My client, a global investment bank, has a cross-asset team that builds the software and analytics that underpin their Global Markets business. The analytical software and data solutions developed by this team are widely used across the business, helping the Distribution team to price trades and serve clients, Trading to manage their risk, and Structuring to identify new client opportunities. The team is split between London, New York and other locations, with this role being based in London.

JOB PURPOSE

In this role, you will serve as the Data Product Owner for the Global Market. You will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of data products, championing data initiatives, and ensuring that data solutions align with business objectives. You will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating abstract business requirements into effective data-driven solutions and ensuring robust data governance. The person will have a modelling background.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Stakeholder Management

  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand their needs and the value of data products
  • Facilitate prioritisation of data initiatives based on business impact
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups to ensure alignment on objectives

Data Champion

  • Lead the roll-out and adoption of new data products and initiatives
  • Advocate for data-driven decision-making across the team

Business Requirement Analysis & Technology Solutioning

  • Translate core, abstract business requirements into technical solutions
  • Collaborate with technology teams to select appropriate technologies (e.g., for tick data, trading strategy development, or for scalable analytics)

Strategic Data Source Determination

  • Identify and recommend strategic (internal and external) data sources for business and analytics needs
  • Oversee the selection process without directly managing the onboarding

Data Modelling

  • Work closely with technical teams on data modelling activities
  • Provide input and challenge to ensure data models are fit for purpose

Data Governance Steering

  • Drive strong data governance practices, including data ownership, stewardship, metadata management, and data sharing
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards

Agentic Strategy Prioritisation

  • Prioritise both data access and tooling to support agentic strategies for the group

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • This role will involve close collaboration with business stakeholders, quantitative analysts, and technology partners across the business

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS

  • Authority to set priorities for data product development and enhancement
  • Authority to make recommendations regarding data sources and technology selection
  • Authority to steer data governance practices within the business

KNOWLEDGE AND DESIRABLE SKILLS (please read carefully)

They are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal and analytical skills. The following attributes are a useful guide to the level of performance expected:

  • Degree in a quantitative discipline, computer science, data science, or related field (advanced degree an advantage)
  • 5+ years of experience in data product management or related roles within financial services or global markets
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and business analysis
  • Strong understanding of data technologies (e.g., KDB, Databricks) and their application to financial markets (hands-on)
  • Experience in data modelling and governance frameworks
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Genuine passion for data-driven innovation and problem-solving
  • Highly motivated with a genuine passion for finding elegant and practical solutions to technical problems
  • Strong experience within financial global markets (essential)

ESSENTIAL SKILLS (client comments)

  • Leadership in abstract data modelling across the whole capital market domain (client, trade, market, risk), in particular silver and semantic layers
  • Strategic prioritisation in the data domain
  • Stakeholder management (business stakeholders but also e.g. data governance groups)
  • That abstract data modelling requires quant-like skills. Someone with quant skills who has got more involved in data is the right profile. Potentially from a global provider of financial software, data, analytics, and media, or similar organisation, or possibly someone hands-on at a hedge fund..
  • A Technical Manager who can lead by example in the modelling arena.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role operates within a normal office environment

SALARY up to £200k base plus generous bonus and benefits
