AWS DevOps Platform Engineer

We have an urgent contract opportunity for a hands-on AWS DevOps Platform Engineer to support a live, business-critical platform running in AWS.

Role Overview

This role focuses on runtime reliability, monitoring, alerting, system behaviour under load, and ongoing platform optimisation.
You will be working in a live production environment, ensuring a complex platform runs reliably and efficiently.

Note: Active SC Clearance required

Key Responsibilities

AWS Platform Engineering

• Optimise AWS infrastructure for a live multi-tier application
• Improve instance sizing, workload placement, and load distribution
• Work across EC2, networking, DNS, and load balancing

Monitoring, Alerting & Observability

• Strengthen monitoring and alerting using CloudWatch
• Ensure alerts are meaningful and actionable
• Improve visibility of system health and performance

Performance & Reliability

• Analyse system behaviour under load
• Identify bottlenecks across infrastructure and dependencies
• Implement practical improvements to enhance reliability

Incident & Operational Support

• Support incident recovery and analysis
• Work effectively in high-pressure production environments
• Improve platform resilience and stability

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Strong AWS experience (EC2, ALB/NLB, VPC, DNS)
• Proven production support experience
• Monitoring and alerting expertise
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Active SC clearance

Desirable

• Tomcat/JVM experience
• LDAP or enterprise platform exposure
• Experience working in secure environments
