Software Engineering Manager

(Remote) Engineering Manager – AI Native Tech Scale-up – Up to £130k (base)

Imagine a world where you can run thousands of simultaneous conversations and instantly transform them into actionable insights for the world's biggest enterprises. That's not science fiction—that's what a forward-thinking client of mine is building.

This company has architected a platform that operates at a greater scale, turning human dialogue into a strategic asset. They've closed their Series A, landed major enterprise customers, and solved the "can-it-be-done" problems.

Now they need an Engineering Manager to build the high-performing team.

"The mission, should you accept it..."

  • Build, don't babysit: This isn't a role for heavy corp-process or ticket-ticking. The focus is on turning a team of strong senior ICs into a cohesive, accountable, high-performing unit.
  • Own engineering excellence: You'll design lightweight career paths, run coaching 1:1s, and build a culture where risks are surfaced early and delivery is predictable.
  • Kill the "zombie projects": Bring discipline to planning. Know when to reset, when to rescope, and how to avoid projects lingering for months without launch.
  • Champion AI-first ways of working: Use AI as a force-multiplier in your people management—and encourage your engineers to do the same in their dev workflows.

"The toolkit you'll bring..."

  • A proven EM: You've managed engineers before—this isn't your first rodeo. You're ready to hit the ground running on people topics from day one.
  • Technically literate: You don't need to code, but you can hold your own on real-time systems, WebRTC, and architectural trade-offs.
  • Startup-proof: You thrive in ambiguity. No "big-company process" crutches—just pragmatic, lean systems that enable speed.
  • AI-curious: You're already thinking about how AI changes management and development, and you're eager to experiment.
  • Zero ego: You'll collaborate with product, design, and the founders to drive growth—not just engineering roadmaps.
