Salesforce Architect

Purpose of the role The Salesforce Architect is responsible for defining, delivering, and owning the Group wide Salesforce architecture, ensuring Salesforce becomes the single system of record across Orbis and all acquired businesses. The role combines deep hands-on Salesforce technical expertise with strategic leadership of transformation and integration. The successful candidate will lead the consolidation of multiple Salesforce orgs, third party CRM and field service platforms, and legacy systems into a unified, scalable Salesforce platform covering Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Field Service Lightning. This role plays a pivotal part in reducing technical debt, accelerating acquisition onboarding, improving operational efficiency, and enabling a consistent, high quality customer experience across the Group. The Salesforce Architect will design and build solutions directly, define architectural standards, oversee data migration and integration, and work closely with the Transformation Director, Business Analysts, Salesforce Administrator, Salesforce Support, and Integration Developer

Salesforce architecture and delivery
  • Own and define the end-to-end Salesforce architecture for the Group across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Field Service Lightning.
  • Design and build Salesforce solutions directly, including Apex, Visualforce, Lighting Web Connector for automation, integrations, and configuration.
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, reference architectures, data models, and integration patterns.
  • Balance declarative and custom development to ensure maintainable, scalable solutions.
  • Oversee Salesforce org strategy, environment management, release planning, and DevOps processes.
Transformation and platform consolidation
  • Lead the migration of acquired businesses from existing Salesforce orgs, and other third party CRM or field service platforms into the Group Salesforce platform.
  • Plan and execute the migration away from legacy AS400 dependent processes and systems.
  • Define phased transformation roadmaps that minimise operational disruption while delivering measurable value.
  • Work closely with the Transformation Director and Business Analysts to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Ensure all migrations include data quality improvement, process standardisation, and decommissioning of redundant platforms.

Integration and data ownership
  • Work with Integration Developers to design and govern integrations between Salesforce, Workday, telephony platforms, and other core systems.
  • Own Salesforce data architecture, migration strategy, and master data governance.
  • Ensure Salesforce is the authoritative system of record for customers, contracts, assets, and service activity.
  • Define and maintain integration patterns, error handling standards, and monitoring approaches.
Security, compliance, and governance
  • Design Salesforce security models including roles, profiles, permission sets, and sharing rules.
  • Ensure Salesforce implementations align with ISO 27001 controls, GDPR requirements, and internal security policies.
  • Work closely with information security and compliance functions to support audits and evidence requirements.
  • Ensure data protection, retention, and access controls are implemented and maintained.

Leadership and collaboration
  • Provide technical leadership to the Salesforce Administrator and support functions.
  • Act as the senior Salesforce authority across the Group, advising IT, Operations, Sales, and Service teams.
  • Work constructively with third party partners while retaining architectural control and accountability.
  • Support and mentor internal teams on Salesforce best practice, secure design, and platform capabilities.
Secondary responsibilities
  • Support business cases, tenders, and customer assurance activity where Salesforce capability is relevant.
  • Provide architectural input into related programmes such as field service optimisation, customer experience initiatives, and digital transformation.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Stay current with Salesforce platform developments and assess their relevance to Orbis.
  • Participate in incident management and escalation where Salesforce availability or data integrity is impacted.

Year one objectives
  • Deliver a single Group Salesforce architecture covering Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Field Service Lightning, approved and adopted as the standard across Orbis.
  • Successfully migrate acquired businesses from existing Salesforce orgs, third party CRM and Field service platforms into the Group Salesforce platform, with legacy systems decommissioned where appropriate.
  • Define and implement a structured AS400 migration approach, removing Salesforce dependencies on legacy platforms and reducing operational risk.
  • Establish Salesforce as the single system of record for customers, contracts, assets, and service activity across the Group.
  • Reduce CRM and field service technical debt by standardising data models, automation patterns, and integrations.
  • Deliver secure, compliant Salesforce implementations aligned to ISO 27001 and GDPR, with audit ready evidence.
  • Improve acquisition onboarding timelines by delivering repeatable Salesforce integration and migration playbooks.
  • Provide regular progress and architecture updates to the CTO, demonstrating measurable improvements in platform stability, usability, and customer experience.
