AI-Fluent Engineering Manager

The Role

We're hiring an Engineering Manager to own people management for our five-person dev team and the delivery process that supports them.

Day to day, you'll run 1:1s, appraisals, and performance conversations. You'll own the rhythm of how work gets done — standups, sprint cadence, triage — working alongside our Project Manager on coordination and our Lead Developer on technical direction. You'll adapt processes to how each developer works best, and act as a buffer between the team and external noise.

We expect you to be fluent with AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) and to use them daily — for reviewing PRs, triaging bugs, building lightweight automations, and finding ways to make the team faster. This isn't a side interest; it's how we work.

What You'll Own

• Line management of five developers: growth, performance, wellbeing
• Delivery process: sprint rhythm, triage, dev-only meetings, documentation
• Tooling and workflow improvements, with a strong bias toward AI-assisted approaches
• Protecting engineering time and focus

What You Won’t Own

• Technical architecture and code quality decisions (Lead Developer)
• Cross-functional project coordination (Project Manager)
• Company-wide AI strategy (that's a team effort)

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

• Experience line-managing software developers — not just facilitating teams
• Daily, practical use of AI coding tools in your workflow
• Technical empathy: you can read a PR, understand a bug, and hold your own with engineers
• Comfort with performance conversations and career development
• UK timezone availability (10am–6pm GMT, Mon–Fri)

Nice-to-haves:

• SaaS background
• Publishing or media experience
• Asana experience
