Role Overview:

The Head of Data Networks will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the data network infrastructure within FluidOne. This will involve overseeing our core MPLS Network, datacentre infrastructure and network security solutions, ensuring that we deliver all elements of customer services.

Role Responsibilities:

  • MPLS Network Management:

Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of the core MPLS network to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver network solutions that meet customer requirements and service level agreements (SLAs). Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide timely resolution to maintain network integrity. Develop network automation systems to maximise efficiency of deploying and managing the MPLS core network. 4th line point of escalation for customer faults

  • Managed Network and Security Services:

Define service offerings, establish service level agreements, and ensure high-quality service delivery to customers. Implement and maintain robust security measures and protocols to safeguard network infrastructure and customer data.

  • Team Management and Development:

Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of network professionals. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, encouraging continuous learning and skill development.

  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

Liaise with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, and operations teams, to align network services with business objectives and customer needs. Cultivate relationships with key vendors, partners, and external stakeholders to enhance service offerings and stay competitive in the market.

  • Budget and Resource Management:

Develop and manage the Network’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation. Monitor vendor relationships and contracts to optimize value and service delivery.

  • Integration:

Work with acquired companies to ensure their networks adhere to group policies and industry best practice. Plan and implement migration of acquired networks onto centralised group MPLS network infrastructure.

Role Requirements:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a senior engineering role within an ISP or telecommunications company, with a focus on MPLS networks and managed services.
  • Strong technical background, with expertise in designing, implementing, and managing MPLS networks, including routing protocols, QoS, and traffic engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of network security principles, technologies, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
  • Industry certifications (Juniper/Cisco) are highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of driving successful network initiatives

  • Resource Management: Effective budget management and resource allocation skills are crucial for maintaining cost-effective Network operations and infrastructure.
  • Vendor and Contract Management: The ability to manage vendor relationships and contracts, ensuring optimal value and service delivery, is important for controlling costs and maintaining quality of network services.
  • Change Management: Adaptability and the ability to manage change within the Network department, especially during technology upgrades and transitions, are key attributes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with Network compliance, regulatory standards, and best practices to ensure legal and ethical Network operations.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: The capacity to quickly identify and address Network issues and make informed decisions is essential for resolving challenges and optimizing Network processes.
  • Innovation and Continuous Learning: Staying updated on emerging technologies and trends is crucial for driving innovation and keeping the organization competitive in the Networking landscape.
