About Us
At Formula Botanica, we're not just an organic cosmetic formulation school — we’re a vibrant, global community of creators, herbal enthusiasts, indie beauty entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners. Since 2012, we've been on a mission to empower people everywhere to learn how to formulate skincare and haircare with plants, flowers, herbs, and doing so ethically, sustainably and creatively.
With over 22,000 students in nearly 200 countries, and a thriving network of graduates launching indie beauty brands, our small online campus punches well above its weight. We believe formulation is more than chemistry: it's an art, a science, and an act of care — for oneself, for one’s community, and for the planet.
When you join Formula Botanica, you join a mission: to teach the world to formulate with heart, integrity, and excellence. We offer award-winning online courses, rich student support, real feedback, and the chance to be part of the green beauty revolution.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a passionate Instructional Designer & Learning Technologist to help us elevate our online learning experience end-to-end.
This hybrid role blends creative course design with hands-on platform management. You’ll work closely with content experts, our graphic designer, and our Head of Education to craft engaging, interactive learning modules and ensure our Moodle platform is running smoothly, accessibly, and optimally.
If you love shaping learning experiences and enjoy the technical satisfaction of configuring, integrating, and improving digital learning systems, you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
Instructional Design
- Convert expert content into SCORM-compliant learning modules for Moodle, ensuring each unit feels engaging, polished, and interactive.
- Design interactive components including quizzes, simulations, and other elements that delight and teach.
- Infuse social learning tools into our platform — announcements, discussion forums, blog-style reflections — to help learners connect, share, and grow.
- Collaborate with our graphic designer to integrate multimedia assets and ensure visual design that supports learning.
- Ensure all materials are accessible, mobile-responsive, and aligned with adult learning best practices.
Learning Technology
- Manage and configure our Moodle LMS, ensuring new content runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Implement and integrate new learning technologies as required, including plugins, analytics dashboards, and LTI tools that enhance the learner experience.
- Conduct usability tests and quality checks on both learning content and Moodle course configurations to ensure consistency, accessibility, and technical stability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve SCORM module issues, LMS configuration challenges, and user experience problems.
- Support internal teams in using Moodle tools effectively and identifying opportunities for platform optimisation.
- Promote accessibility and compliance across all learning technologies and processes.
What You Bring
Must-Haves
- Demonstrable experience in SCORM-compliant instructional design, especially for Moodle platforms.
- Strong understanding of Moodle’s features for courses, forums, announcements, quizzes, and social learning elements.
- Experience managing or configuring an LMS (ideally Moodle), including plugins, integrations, and platform optimisation.
- Ability to troubleshoot SCORM/LMS issues and perform quality assurance checks.
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive learning practices.
- Experience designing interactive learning experiences such as quizzes, case studies, assessments, or branching scenarios.
- Excellent collaboration skills — you enjoy working closely with content experts, designers, and educational leads.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time-sensitive, overlapping tasks.
Nice to Have
- Experience with authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, H5P, iSpring, etc.).
- Knowledge of learning analytics, xAPI, or data dashboards.
- Experience designing for online accessibility and universal design.
- A creative mindset with a flair for storytelling in learning content.
What We Offer
- Full time, permanent role.
- Fully remote work (flexible working hours) with a globally diverse, friendly, mission-driven team.
- Opportunity to really shape our learner experience — your work will have visible impact.
- Access to resources, support, community inside Formula Botanica, and the chance to learn from seasoned experts in organic formulation.
If you’re someone who believes learning should feel alive, interactive, and community-centred — and you want to help people around the world learn to craft beautiful natural cosmetics — we’d love to hear from you.
